Dubai punishes a badly sequenced itinerary more than most cities, because the attractions are genuinely far apart and taxis in peak traffic are slow and expensive. Four days is comfortable if each day stays in one part of the city. This is the order our desk actually books for families.

Land, check in, and keep the first evening low-effort near the Marina or JBR — a walk along the water and a dhow cruise dinner. It gives you the skyline on night one without asking anything of a family that has just flown.

Downtown: Burj Khalifa, the fountain, Dubai Mall
Book a Burj Khalifa slot in advance and prefer late afternoon so you see the city in daylight and lit up. The fountain show runs from the lake below afterwards, and the mall and aquarium absorb whatever time is left. Everything on this day is walkable from one another.

Desert safari and a Bedouin-style evening
Keep the day light because the safari takes the afternoon and evening: dune drive, camel ride, sunset in the desert, then dinner with entertainment. Motion sickness is common on dune bashing — if anyone in the group is prone to it, ask for the gentler drive.

Old Dubai, the creek and the souks
The half of Dubai people skip and then wish they had not. Cross the creek on an abra, walk the gold and spice souks, and see the older quarter. Then a beach hour or last shopping before the airport, depending on your flight.
When is the best time to go?
November to March is the comfortable window and also the busiest. April and October are hot but workable and cheaper. Peak summer is genuinely severe for outdoor plans with children.
