The Real Maldives Budget for an Indian Couple (With Actual Numbers)
By Flynk Travel Desk · 12 July 2026

No destination suffers more budget misinformation than the Maldives. One camp swears it's ₹5 lakh minimum; the other promises overwater villas at guesthouse prices. Both are describing real trips — just wildly different ones. Since we quote this route weekly, here is the actual cost architecture, with the levers labelled.
The five lines that make the number
Every Maldives budget is flights + transfers + room + meals + extras. That's it. What varies is each line's range — and transfers are the line first-timers never see coming.
- Flights: Delhi/Mumbai to Malé returns run roughly ₹22,000–38,000 per person in normal season if booked 6–10 weeks out; Kochi departures often undercut both.
- Transfers: speedboat resorts near Malé charge modestly per person return; seaplane resorts charge a serious premium per person. Two people on a seaplane can add more than an entire domestic holiday. This single choice swings budgets by tens of thousands.
- The room: a local-island guesthouse, a 4-star resort beach villa, a 5-star, and an overwater villa are four different price universes. The room decides your trip's class more than any other line.
- Meals: resorts are islands — you eat where you sleep. Half-board or full-board plans bought with the package cost dramatically less than paying à la carte on arrival, where a pizza can cost what a Delhi dinner for four does.
- Extras: dolphin cruises, spa, watersports. Budget a real number here or the card statement will do it for you.
Three honest trip shapes
The guesthouse route (local islands like Maafushi): couple total including flights can land around ₹85,000–1,10,000. Real beaches, real snorkelling, alcohol-free local islands, public/speedboat ferries. Genuine Maldives, minus the resort bubble.
The smart resort route: a 4-star speedboat-transfer resort on half-board — the configuration our 4N Water-Villa Escape package is built around — typically totals ₹1.6–2.2 lakh for the couple with flights, using the split-stay trick below.
The full postcard: 5-star or luxury overwater throughout, seaplane, meal plans, sunset everything — ₹3 lakh climbing to whatever the resort's brand commands. Worth it when the occasion is worth it; that's a values question, not a maths one.
The split-stay trick
Overwater villas cost roughly double beach villas at the same resort. Two nights over water plus two on the beach delivers the glass-floor mornings and the photographs at a fraction of four-night-overwater pricing. Resorts sell this happily; travellers just rarely think to ask. It is the single highest-value structuring decision in Maldives planning, which is why our package defaults to it.
What costs nothing
The visa. Indians receive a free 30-day visa on arrival — passport, return ticket, hotel confirmation, done. Any site charging for a 'Maldives visa' is charging for air.
When to go
November–April is dry-season peak with January pricing to match. May–October brings short showers, softer rates and identical lagoons — the value window for anyone flexible. Avoid pricing your trip off a January screenshot for a September travel date, in either direction.
The honest close: the Maldives isn't expensive or cheap — it's configurable. Decide the experience first (guesthouse authenticity, smart resort, full postcard), then let the number follow. Our quotes itemise all five lines so you can see exactly which lever you're pulling. That transparency is, not coincidentally, the whole way we price everything.
