Turkey Visa for Indians
Turkey's e-visa for Indians hinges on one condition most applicants miss — a valid visa or residence permit from the US, UK, Schengen or Ireland. Both routes, explained honestly.

The condition that decides your route
Turkey's famous e-visa is available to Indians **only if you hold a valid visa or residence permit from the Schengen area, USA, UK or Ireland**. Meet that condition and Istanbul is a 15-minute online application away; without it, you take the embassy sticker route — slower, but entirely doable.
Route 1 — the e-visa (with a supporting visa)
Apply on the official portal with your passport details, travel dates and supporting-visa information. The e-visa grants **30 days, single entry**, for a fee around USD 43–60 depending on current schedules, and arrives by email — usually within a day. Two rules bite the careless: the supporting visa must be **valid on your Turkey entry date** (not merely at application), and you should arrive by air on a carrier — the facility is tied to conditions the portal states.
Route 2 — the sticker visa
No qualifying visa? Applications go through the Turkish missions and their contracted visa centres in India. The file resembles a Schengen application:
- Passport valid 6+ months, older passports helpful
- Biometric photos, application form
- Flight and hotel reservations
- Bank statements (last 3–6 months) and ITRs
- Employment or business proof, leave letter
- Travel insurance covering the stay
Processing typically runs **2–4 weeks**, longer in the May–August rush — Cappadocia balloon season books Indian weddings and honeymoons months out.
Which route should you plan around?
If a Schengen or US application is already in your year's plans, sequence it first — it unlocks Turkey's e-visa and simplifies everything. If Turkey is the sole trip, start the sticker file 6–8 weeks ahead and let us pre-check it; Turkish consulates are particular about consistent dates across bookings and forms.
FAQ
Does an expired US visa qualify me for the e-visa?
No — the supporting visa must be valid. An expired stamp routes you to the sticker process.
Is Turkey visa-free for Indians at any point?
No visa-free facility exists for Indian tourists; ignore posts claiming otherwise.
E-visa refused — what now?
E-visa conditions are mechanical; "refusals" are usually eligibility errors. We re-check your qualifying document and, where needed, pivot the file to the embassy route.
